Content:  This course will help you understand the basics and importance of geotechnical testing, forensic and environmental issues and the effects on residential design and construction.  Mr. Eastwood will discuss; geotechnical field studies, laboratory testing, data analysis, expansive soils, foundation types, foundations and risks, the effects of trees, quality control, soil stabilization.  The presentation will include what is expansive soils, how to treat them for residential design.  The foundation types will consist of slab-on-grade, post-tension slabs, drilled footings and the new helical pile system.  Also covered will be forensic evaluation of distressed residence in Houston.  The forensic presentation focuses on design, construction, materials, environmental conditions, and wear and tear, and causation for foundation distress and repair techniques.  As a part of the presentation, Mr. Eastwood will also discuss Houston faults and how to build houses near the faults.  Earthwork and pad construction is also an important part of residential construction.  Mr. Eastwood will outline items on earthwork, compaction, lime, and lime-fly ash stabilization. In addition to earthwork testing, Mr. Eastwood will discuss various components of concrete testing, concrete placement, slump, cylinders, etc.
