
Design and Construction of Residential Foundations & Soil Materials Testing *(In-person event)

Description
This is a 4 ½ hour in depth seminar on residential foundation design, construction, testing and distress evaluation. This is a must see seminar for both custom and production builders. Residential architects, structural engineers and developers would get a lot out of it as well.
This course will help you understand the basics and importance of geotechnical testing, forensic and environmental issues and the effects on residential design and construction. Mr. Eastwood will discuss; geotechnical field studies, laboratory testing, data analysis, expansive soils, foundation types, foundations and risks, the effects of trees, quality control, soil stabilization. The presentation will include what is expansive soils, how to treat them for residential design. The foundation types will consist of slab-on-grade, post-tensioned slabs, drilled footings and the new helical pile system. Also cover will be forensic evaluation of distressed residence in Houston. The forensic presentation focuses on design, construction, materials, environmental conditions, and wear and tear, and causation for foundation distress and repair techniques. As a part of the presentation, Mr. Eastwood will also discuss Houston faults and how to build houses near the faults. Earthwork and pad construction is also an import part of residential construction. Mr. Eastwood will outline items on earthwork, compaction, lime, and lime-fly ash stabilization. In addition to earthwork testing, Mr. Eastwood will discuss various components of concrete testing, concrete placement, slump, cylinders, etc. Some of the cities in the Houston area have new building code requirements.
