Tuesday, January 23, 2024 (9:00 AM - 4:30 PM) (CST)
Description
Gord Cooke, Partner at Construction Instruction, Inc. This workshop will cover the essentials of building science specifically for hot, humid climates such as Houston, TX. This session will help building professionals understand how to implement energy efficient and modern measures in their everyday practices and will strive to help the industry along a path of continual improvement. The goal of this session is to give participants the tools to create or renovate buildings that are ever safer, healthier, more comfortable, durable and more energy efficient.
Program Objectives:
The primary objectives of this training program are:
1. To provide participants with a deep understanding of building science principles as they apply to hot and humid climates, particularly focusing on Houston, TX.
2. To equip attendees with strategies for effective moisture management in building structures.
3. To guide participants in implementing energy efficiency requirements in compliance with advancing building codes and programs, both for new and existing buildings.
Training Outline:
Session 1: Building Science for Hot and Humid Climates (2 hours)
Time: 9am to 11am
Session Fee: $50 members / $75 non-members
Content:• Understanding the Houston, TX climate and its impact on building design. • Learn a deeper understanding of air, heat and moisture flow and see how they can be applied to make better design, material and methods decisions.
Session 2: Managing Moisture (2 hours)
Time: 12pm to 2PM
Session Fee: $50 members / $75 non-members
Content: • Effective indoor humidity control strategies for healthy, comfortable, durable indoor environments.
• Identifying the 5 sources of indoor moisture in buildings and the four strategies for moisture prevention and control. • Participants will learn how building enclosure decisions and HVAC choices can be used synergistically in both new and existing homes to meet the humidity expectations of homeowners in a cost-effective way.
• Discover techniques for assessing and validating moisture control strategies, specifically for the Houston climate.
Session 3: Achieving Energy Efficiency in Compliance with Advancing Codes and Programs (2 hours)
Time: 2:30pm – 4:30pm
